Bandung is the provincial capital of West Java. Nicknamed Parisj van Java (Paris of Java) by the Dutch for its resemblance to Paris and European atmosphere of ambiance and sophistication. Another nickname earned by the city is Kota Kembang, literally meaning the City of Flower since Bandung used to have a lot of flowers. Being 768 m above sea level and lies on a plateau surrounded by the lush and beautiful volcanic mountains makes Bandung has cooler temperatures year-round than most other Indonesian cities. Host to the historic Asia Africa conference in 1955, Bandung is now center of many higher education, commerce and aircraft industry making Bandung as one of education cities to go to.

The Dutch colonials first established tea plantations around the mountains in the eighteenth century. The Dutch inhabitants of the city demanded estabilishment of a municipality (gemeente), that was granted in 1906, and Bandung gradually developed itself into a resort city for plantation owners. Luxurious hotels, cafes or restaurants and many European boutiques were opened, hence the city was nicknamed Paris van Java (the Paris of Java). Bandung is now well-known as the city of fashion for there are many malls and factory outlet spread, and also became popular shopping destination for the good value of its textile and fashion products among Singaporeans and Malaysians.

Bandung is home to numerous of Dutch colonial architecture, most noticeably is the tropical Art Deco architectural style combined with local cultural traditions. There is an aample of a harmonious mixture between the East and West architectural styles, particularly Thailand's pagoda-like structures in the middle section and the Italian Renaissance style of arch structures in the west wing. The building is named Gedung Sate, named after the distinguished small satay-shaped structured on the roof. Today, used as the head office of West Java provincial government and West Java's house of representative.

Many significant tourist sites near Bandung, some of them include Mt. Tangkuban Perahu volcano crater
to the north, and the striking Kawah Putih volcano lake, and Petanggang Lake, a lake that surrounded by tea plantations. If you like music, Bandung has some of the best known indie rock bands in the country. It is usual to find yourself walking into a gig at a mall or shopping centre featuring some of the city's performers. Bandung is also a heaven for food lovers who enjoy new experiences. There are a lot of varieties, not only local cuisine but also international cuisine.

Bandung is located in the central highlands, so it can be reached easily through highways from Jakata via the toll road or any city by plane. The city has a small airport that is connected to Singapore and Malaysia by budget airlines.
