Derawan Archipelago is located in Archipelago Derawan, Berau district, off the east coast of East Kalimantan. Consisting of several islands, make Derawan a perfect tropical paradise with its stunning whity sand beaches, palm trees and year-round warm atmosphere, its glittering seas can change colors from green, to aquamarine to dark blue. There is a small forest in the middle of the island which is the habitat of various species of plants and animals, you can find the world's biodiversity, but some of them are protected species such as giant turtles, dolphins, manta rays, dungongs, barracudas and stingless jellyfish.

Derawan Archipelago has 1,270,000 hectares area of sea and land, was nominated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Derawan has a unique biodiversity with more than 460 kinds of coral spread around this area and several sandbanks such as, Tababinga, Muaras, Buliulin, Pinaka, Panjang, Masimbung Sandbank. There are over 28 diving spots have been identified, to explore all these spots approximately can take about 10 days with one dive at each spot.

Derawan Archipelago is pride tourism destination of East Kalimantan, in fact it can be said one of the new pride tourism in Indonesia, and top ranks third as a world class dive destination even often look for scuba diving lovers. There are also some other islands you can visit while travelling in the Derawan Archipelago, such as Sangalaki Island, Maratua Island, and Kakaban Island which famous with its jellyfish lake and sea turtle scales.

Derawan Archipelago provides amenities such as cottages, speedboat, restaurants, and diving equipment. The houses are simple overhanging nearly 100 metres into the sea make the residents freely see a variety of colorful fish and turtle passing freely.

To get to Derawan Archipelago, you can take a flight for about 3 hours to Balikpapan by plane from Jakarta, you may also take a flight from Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bali, and many more. From Balikpapan, catch a flight to Cape Redeb take one hour by plane KAL Star, Deraya or DAS. Cape Redeb can also be reached by sea, with boarded the ship from Samarinda or Tarakan to Tanjung Redeb. If you want to go by land transport from Balikpapan, it takes about 750 km to reach Tanjung Batu (Balikpapan - Samarinda - Bontang - Sangatta - Muara Wahau - Berau - Tanjung Batu) and then take 30 minutes journey by speedboad to Derawan.
